2021 SUMMER TUTORING PROGRAM
Sharing our STEM Passions
Over the summer of 2021, we partnered with Kardia for the launch of this initiative, who is a youth-led organization that promotes heart health by educating the world about the many heart disorders and diseases of today one beat at a time. Together, we organized the 2021 NGB x Kardia Summer Tutoring Program over the months of July and August. This program offered STEM tutoring to students throughout high school to help them with their learning that had been disrupted by the pandemic. With 60 student-tutor pairs, we were able to provide educational assistance to over 30 students and volunteer hours for 20 tutors.
PROGRAM INSIGHTS
Students received lessons based on the Ontario curriculum material. Both the learning method and the program were adapted to the specific needs of the students. Tutors must be dedicated students. They are experienced in the Ontario Curriculum of the STEM subjects they teach, and have have achieved an A level (according to Ontario Grading Standards) in relevant grading material. Tutors are familiar with Zoom, Google Meet and Skype.
